National Fitness Day

To help you decide what to do on the day, there’s an Event Planner on the National Fitness Day website
http://www.nationalfitnessday.com/find-an-event/

All events are free so there’s no excuse for not making an appearance. The range of activities is pretty impressive and will be getting added to as the day approaches.

So, just pop your post code in the event finder and see what’s happening near you.

It’s a post code lottery, but you’re guaranteed a win!

West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust supports Sport England’s ‘This Girl Can’ campaign

Sport England officially launched the inspiring ‘This Girl Can’ campaign last night (12 Jan) with the premiere of a national television advertisement during Coronation Street, reaching millions of viewers.  The initiative aims to forge new positive social attitudes to and around women and girls playing sport and being physically active, breaking down a key barrier (fear of judgement) so that they feel more confident and comfortable exercising.

West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust is supporting the initiative to encourage women and girls to take part in activities at our Centres and spread the message that ‘thisgirlcan’.  The Trust has five leisure facilities across West Lancashire offering a variety of activities, including, Legs, Bums & Tums, Pilates and high energy Les Mills group exercise classes.  Other activities available such as squash, badminton, aqua aerobics and even golf, offer an alternative workout option to the gym.

If an introduction to a particular sport or activity is needed, then West Lancashire Community Leisure’s friendly gym instructors are on hand to provide advice and support.  To see all of West Lancashire Community Leisure’s facilities and opportunities, visit www.westlancsleisure.com.

The Chairman of West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust commented “Sport England’s growing insight, especially into younger women, shows that many of the barriers encountered are emotional as well as practical – how they feel about sport is as important as finding a convenient, affordable option.  We are hopeful that the campaign will inspire women and girls within our local community and liberate them from fear of judgement to join us in our centres and get involved.”

There is a huge social media drive behind the Sport England campaign using the hashtag #ThisGirlCan to get women talking and sharing their thoughts and experiences.

Join us at Facebook at GymInWestLancs or on Twitter @gyminWestLancs where we will be supporting this inspiring campaign and showing you how to get involved at your local leisure centre.

Could you give some time to support our local organisation by becoming a Trustee?

Do you have a strong interest in sport and leisure in the local community and would like to help shape the way services are provided?

West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust is looking for new members to join the board of Trustees whose role is to ensure that the leisure centres in the Borough meet the needs of local communities.

West Lancashire Community Leisure was formed in 2005 and since then it has gone from strength to strength, it has responsibility for the five leisure centres across the Borough:

  • Nye Bevan Pool
  • Park Pool
  • Banks Leisure Centre
  • Burscough Fitness and Rackets Leisure Centre
  • Beacon Country Park Golf Centre

There are currently vacancies for Trustees to strengthen the Board. Ideally you will support the Trust’s aim of service to the community. Trustees are volunteers and you will need to be able to give a few hours a month to the Board for meetings and occasionally other community focused events.

You should also be prepared to read papers before meetings be prepared to contribute to decision-making of the Trust.

We would particularly like to hear from anyone with experience or involvement in the strategic development of small and medium sized businesses, a professional background in health services or with experience of voluntary sector funding.

If you wish to apply to become a Trustee, please contact:

Liz Hale, Trust Support Officer for an application pack via Rebecca.heyes@serco.com or 01704 891287 / 895266

Prospective Trustees who match the criteria described will be invited to meet the current board of Trustees.
